Dr Michael Hayes graduated from the Queen’s University of Belfast with a B.Sc. First Class Honours degree in Mathematics and won a Foundation Scholarship in his first year.
Michael went on to complete a Master of Advanced Study in Mathematics at King’s College, University of Cambridge, and then a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of Durham where he tutored mathematics undergraduates for several years.
Following completion of his studies, Michael joined the thriving IT industry in Cambridge, UK. He was instrumental in writing software systems for ESI (Electronic Share Information) Ltd and E*TRADE UK. He also worked for ProQuest Information and Learning and, on moving to New Zealand, worked on software for the financial services industry with Diligent.
Michael is married to Dr Audrey Tan and is a proud father of one. With a strong desire to return to his mathematical roots, Michael has joined Audrey in her endeavours to raise the standard of mathematics achievement in New Zealand. He tutors school-aged children and has also worked as a tutor in the Mathematics Department at the University of Canterbury.
